I like your conversation about building up images.

 I did this a while ago, actually quite a while ago, painstaking adding coloured blocks to build an image.

 When finished I reviewed my time spent on this endeavour and how iffy it was. 

 Now I only use very small blocks the same colour as the background and just drop them anywhere. 

 Obviously, each block is an image and holds just as much information. 

 Easier, much quicker and far less hassle and it achieves the same results.

 Obviously, I can’t add these to an online platform devoted to mosaics, but I’ve only got so much time to dedicate to image requirements. 

 It’s a great idea though.
