Desperate Calls

Published on: 13-May 03:20am

Today has not been a good day.

Why is it that just when you think you have most things planned, the bottom falls out of your world?

I’ve said a few times I do video promotional work for resorts in the South Pacific.

I want you all to know I’m no expert in this. I’m passable at best, but I’ve got creative ideas and I’m able to video underwater, using drones for aerial work and obviously video on land.

I get chosen because to my mind my client presentation is better and I do everything in the house. From conceptual design to finished product.

My clients like me and I’ve developed friendships, and reaped the rewards.

This morning a client phoned me from his resort in the New Calidonia islands. This is nothing unusual as we get on very well.

However, he informed me that he had smoothed the waters ( his words ), between myself and another resort consortium. They want to speak to me today with a view to engaging my services.

This was unusual as I know this group and they have always used my competition as service providers. To be honest my main competition has about 4 staff and they are very good at what they do. So I was confused to say the least.

It appears my competition have now closed their doors due to the lack of work because of the lack of overseas tourists.

So I get on a Skype video call with this group, and they are desperate.

They want a new series of campaigns to promote their resorts, as they expect the season to open well and want to focus on the French and European market, amongst other things.

They want me to start developing concepts now and proceed to production as soon as they approve of the concepts.

I don’t know if any of you are aware, but Australia has a total overseas travel ban, except for exceptional cases, and this does not qualify.

This contract is like a dream come true. I told them I would have to get back to them, with a heavy heart and a feeling of foreboding.

That was about 10:00 am here.  I have managed to secure the services of a charter catamaran in the Whitsunday Islands ( Great Barrier Reef ), for December and January. Excluding 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year.

My plan is to go to the islands on the Reef that somewhat resemble the New Calidonia islands, and produce videos that way.

That little sentence took 8 hours to organize. Another 2 hours to get approval from the correct people in New Calidonia as it’s Sunday here and there today.

It now 12.45 am Monday morning here, I’m flying out to Hamilton Island in about 7 hours time. Then to a chartered helicopter to view a few sites and take extra drone video for navigation purposes. Its complex.

So for a start, I’ll be delayed in finishing off my YouTube posts for you guys until I get back, probably about 3 days.

Once back I’ll finish what I have to do for you all and start my concepts.

This my friends are how your entire world turns to sh*t.

The next 3 months will see some very strange posts from me.

Cheers.
