Insight on YouTube Video Production

Published on: 13-May 04:17am

If I may offer some insight into the production of YouTube videos.

I’ve added a percentage breakdown of google properties below to make this understanding a bit clearer.

We all go to all this effort online to produce the same outcome.

We want traffic and awareness of either or product or our beloved cause, sometimes called brand awareness.

How we go about this with our limited time available to all of us is of critical importance.

Something I NEVER see discussed, but of the upmost importance is what platform to use to best facilitate our endeavours.

Let’s just look at videos. In most of our endeavours, we make videos for YouTube. Obviously YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine in the world.

REALLY. Look below.

Search Platform % of Searches

Google 62.6%

Google (image) 22.6%

YouTube 4.3%

Google Maps 1.3%

Google Total 90.8%

It clearly shows that google images is the 2nd largest, and by a huge margin.

This brings me to the point of this post.

We need to consider many variables BEFORE we choose to produce anything. Something that is simply not done here.

Google and YouTube are used by searchers for very different reasons. We need to understand the search intentions, especially when using YouTube.

YouTube is a visual platform, a huge number of videos are consumed without using the audio component.

Surprisingly a lot of information that you think you need to convey via a video, can just as efficiently be conveyed using the likes of an image, here infographics work wonders.  Remember the size of the search component of google images. You will reach more people with less ranking effort using google images than YouTube.

Now, I have tested this and used this for a long long long time.

I offer this information because no one else is even talking about it.

Understand first what you want the end result to be, what search platform will serve you the best, what modality will be most effective.

In many cases I’ve found I simply don’t need to make a video.

If you think you need a video. Fine. Now ask yourself.

Do I want my videos to be found on google or YouTube. This is again a very important question.

A single video on page one of google search results will have more effectiveness than an entire channel on YouTube. Many many times over.

A single video that uses say keyword titled paragraphs shows up more than once on that same page of google. Your return on your time investment will skyrocket.

Understand your end result, then produce a asset for the platform ie. google/google images/YouTube that will best serve that end result.

We are all given 1440 minutes in a day. How much we effectively and efficiently use to produce an income to free up the remaining time, so that we can live the life we want for ourselves, is critical.

Food for thought.
