My Camera Setup

Published on: 13-May 02:39am

on’t laugh by what you are about to read, but I can take cinematic videos in 4K resolution with just a single IPhone 11 Pro Max.

I use two, my wife’s and mine, I don’t film with two, I only film with mine phone BUT I control my camera via the remote control app on my wife’s iPhone.

This has incredible advantages. Just think if you had to set up a camera on a forest trail with limited light streaming through the forest.

I simply set up my iPhone with one of the three tripods I carry, view and adjust everything through my wife’s iPhone using the remote control app and when everything is perfect, I just walk through the trail being filmed but monitored remotely whilst the video is recording. Done. Simple.

The same applies when I’m using my dji osmo OM4 iPhone stabiliser. This one has a magnetic mount for ease of use. Whilst I’m walking and filming my wife is watching in real time to make adjustments if necessary.

Obviously we do this first to set everything up if I require a rotating shot of the subject ( me ), then my wife just walks the camera around using the dji stabiliser.

Seriously this new kit is so good I’m never bothering with cameras again.

The camera App I use is listed below.

Filmic Pro.

I use the standard app. The cinematic add on app AND most importantly the remote app for Filmic Pro.

ND filters are incredibly important. With them people think you are using high end camera equipment. I use the products made by Moondog Labs.

Moondog ND Filter Kit.

I use the Moment IPhone Case.

Step up rings can be bought all over the place.

My tripods are a table mount Neewer tripod and a bigger Neewer tripod. I also carry a simple large gorilla tripod. As they say here, cheap as chips.

Everything fits into a small backpack with loads of extra room.

I’m NEVER EVER going to carry cameras around again. Hell I even have used those waterproof clear cases for taking videos underwater with my iPhone.

Surprisingly the remote control works well to a depth of a few meters. So I’m underwater filming and my wife is on the board, canoe, boat adjusting my iPhone from hers using the remote control In REAL time.

This stuff has come a long way in an incredibly short period of time.

That’s it, short and simple. Use YouTube to learn about filming and lights and within a short space of time, you will both amaze yourself and mystify others.

Cheers. Off to the beach.
